Cheer - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who is eligible to cheer?
A:  Children  between the ages of 5 and 15 on July 31st of the current year can cheer.  Children must be in good health and have the required doctor’s consent form to participate.
Q: What determines which squad my child will participate on?
A: Squad placement is determined based on age and grade.
Q: What organization is the Bethel Wildcats affiliated with?
A: Bethel cheers for the Northern CT Pop Warner organization. Bethel also operates under the Pop Warner Little Scholars national organization.
Q:What is the commitment to participate in the Bethel Wildcats Cheerleading Program?
A: A significant amount of practice time is required to participate on the Bethel Wildcats Cheer Squad.  In addition to cheering at football games, our cheer squads participate in local, state, regional and national cheer competitions.  To prepare for competition, the Bethel Wildcats cheer season will begin on August 1st.  Practices are held Monday through Thursday, with Friday as a rain date, and occasional weekend day, throughout the month of August.  During the months of September through November, practices continue three nights per week, 2 - 2 1/2 hours per night (times and locations will be determined by the Head Coaches along with school availabliity).  The game days and times vary by squad.  If your child’s squad progresses to regional and national competitions, practices may continue into December, with  Nationals being held in early December.
Q: Where are the Bethel Wildcats practices and games held?
A:  Practices (during the month of August) are at Berry School, and or the side of the school.  Once school starts practices will be held indoors at various Bethel schools.  Home games are at the Wildcat field located at Rockwell School.
Q: What is the deadline for registering for Bethel Wildcat Cheerleading?
A: Registrations will be accepted until the first of August.  Team sizes are limited, however, to a maximum of 35 participants and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.  Your registration is not complete until full payment and all paperwork has been received.  Players with outstanding paperwork will not be allowed to participate in August practice.
Q: Do I have to buy the uniform?
A: No!  Bethel Wildcats supplies each cheerleader with a uniform.  The uniform consists of a Vest, Long Sleeved Bodyliner, Skirt.  In addition, the league will also supply the Pom-Pom’s (these, along with the uniform,  need to be returned at the end of the season), socks, and the Hair Bow (sock’s and bow are yours to keep).  The only items you will need to purchase are Boy Shorts and Competition sneakers.  Both of which can be purchased through Bethel Wildcats.
